History of BELMA S.A.

The forefather of Bydgoskie Zakłady Elektromechaniczne "BELMA" S.A. was a locksmith's workshop located in Bydgoszcz at 11 Dworcowa Street, founded in 1868 by Karol Fiebrandt. In 1898, the workshop was moved to the Okole district, where it had the conditions for further expansion. Initially, it repaired and manufactured simple agricultural machines, but over time it focused on the production of devices securing train traffic. In 1899, the status of the workshop changed - it became a limited liability company. Over the years, the workshop transformed into a factory that developed dynamically and expanded its production profile to include newer product ranges.

1939

In 1939, the factory was incorporated into the SIEMENS concern, which in 1943 moved the department of flameproof and explosion-proof electrical equipment for mining to Bydgoszcz.

1948

In 1948, an enterprise was established under the name of "Bydgoska Fabryka Sygnałów Kolejowych" - a State Enterprise separated on the basis of the Order of the Minister of Industry and Trade issued in agreement with the Minister of Treasury and the President of CUP. The assets of the enterprise were taken over on the basis of the Regulation of the Council of Ministers of 30 January 1947 on the procedure for taking over enterprises into state ownership (Journal of Laws No. 16 item 62), amended by the Regulation of the Council of Ministers of 16 April 1948 (Journal of Laws No. 25 item 170).

1951

In the first years after World War II, the factory, which had the status of a state-owned enterprise, continued to produce equipment for securing railway traffic and explosion-proof equipment for the rapidly developing coal industry. In 1951, the factory's production profile changed significantly - the production of signaling equipment for the railway industry was transferred to the plant in Żary. In this situation, great emphasis was placed on the development of the production of explosion-proof equipment for mining and chemistry, which became one of the main specialties of "BELMA".

1951-54

In the years 1951–54, on the outskirts of the city, in Białe Błota near Bydgoszcz, a new plant was built, which launched the production of the first precision products for the army and the production of sound signals for the automotive industry.

1958

In 1958, the company's name was changed from "Bydgoska Fabryka Sygnałów Kolejowych" to Bydgoskie Zakłady Elektromechaniczne "BELMA" based on Order No. 100 of the Minister of Heavy Industry. The following years were a period of continuing and developing the three aforementioned industries. Over 2,000 people found employment here. A relatively stable production profile and a large sales market provided the staff with stability and job security.

1994

In 1994, the state-owned enterprise was transformed into a sole-shareholder company of the State Treasury under the name Bydgoskie Zakłady Elektromechaniczne "BELMA" S.A. based on the Act of 05.02.1993 on ownership transformations of certain state-owned enterprises of special importance to the state economy (Journal of Laws No. 16 item 69, as amended). That same year - in September - BZE "BELMA" S.A. was entered into the commercial register under number RHB-3342 based on the Decision of the District Court in Bydgoszcz, VIII Commercial Division. Currently, BZE "BELMA" S.A. is listed in the National Court Register (KRS No. 0000035694), XIII Commercial Division of the National Court Register of the District Court in Bydgoszcz.
